Hayward appointed interim chairman at Glencore Xstrata
Tony Hayward, the former BP chief executive who resigned after the US Gulf of Mexico oil spill, is set to make an extraordinary return to the top of British business by becoming interim chairman of natural resources giant Glencore Xstrata.

Mr Hayward will be announced interim chairman at Glencore Xstrata's annual general meeting after shareholders voted down Sir John Bond, one person familiar with the situation told the Financial Times.

Sir John told the meeting in Zug, Switzerland, he did not have the support of shareholders to be re-elected.
