South African growth weakens to slowest since 2009
South Africa's economy, in the first quarter of this year, grew at its slowest pace since a recession in 2009, significantly underperforming economists' forecasts and underscoring the challenges facing Africa's most developed nation.

Amway India expresses shock at arrests
The chief executive of Amway India was arrested on Monday evening following complaints from employees, in a move the local subsidiary of the US cosmetics and consumer goods company described as "a surprise and a shock".

Chilean retailer bets on Brazilian DIY
Chilean retailers are at it again: buying in Brazil. This time, it's the turn of Falabella, the country's No. 3 retailer. It is spending $189m to buy a 50.1 per cent stake in Construdecor, which operates 57 DICICO DIY (home improvement) stores in the state of São Paulo, with sales last year of $385m.

Russian grocer Lenta plans IPO in London
The owners of St Petersburg grocer Lenta have begun talks with bankers about a potential London listing for the Russian retailer, in a deal that would raise about £1bn.
