Shares rebound as yen slides
European stocks are firmer and Asian shares bounced off a two-month low, but investors remain twitchy after uncertainty over the duration and impact of central bank intervention delivered volatility in recent weeks.

Turkey: markets up but fears persist
The Turkish stock market bounced back 4.4 per cent on Tuesday morning after Monday's 10.5 per cent collapse, the lira was steady against the dollar and the bond market strengthened, with the yield on two-year lira bonds falling 46 basis points to 6.32 per cent, after Monday's surge.

When Xi Jinping arrives in California at the end of this week he will bring a new Chinese world view with him. It has been five years since China effectively rejected the concept of a "Group of Two (G2)" relationship between Washington and Beijing and the phrase is still dismissed out of hand by Chinese officials. But as Mr Xi prepares for his first meeting as Chinese president with US President Barack Obama the idea has been quietly adopted and rebranded by Beijing.

Tensions in South Africa's mines flared after a union official was shot dead and 1,000 workers were dismissed after a wildcat strike, highlighting the strife facing companies in the sector and alarming investors ahead of an important round of industry wage talks.

Indonesia orders Freeport to shut mine pending cave-in probe
The Indonesian government has ordered Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, the US mining group, to halt production at its copper and gold mine in Papua province for three months while it completes an investigation into a fatal cave-in at an underground training centre.
