Tsuyoshi Kikukawa, the disgraced former chairman of Olympus, and two other executives received suspended sentences on Wednesday for their role in orchestrating a $1.7bn accounting fraud at the Japanese optical equipment maker.
Mr Kikukawa and the other executives, Hisashi Mori and Hideo Yamada, had pleaded guilty to the accusation that they filed false financial reports. Suspended sentences are the norm in such cases in Japan, particularly if the perpetrators are not seen to have personally enriched themselves.
