| | | Ballmer to leave Microsoft within a year | | | Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer will step down from the company within the next 12 months, the company said in a statement.
The board of directors said they had started a search process to identify a successor.
Shares in Microsoft rose 8 per cent in pre-market trading following the announcement.
