Nobel peace prize for chemical weapons watchdog
 
The Nobel Peace Prize for 2013 has been awarded to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, currently working to destroy Syria's chemical weapons arsenal in the midst of a bloody civil war.

The fraught attempt to disarm the Assad regime is seen as the best hope of avoiding a further internationalisation of the conflict that could involve military intervention by the US
