US jobs report for September misses forecast

The US economy had a lacklustre month of job creation even before the October government shutdown.

The world's largest economy generated 148,000 jobs in September, according to the Labor Department, while the unemployment rate dipped to 7.2 per cent.

Economists had forecast a gain of 180,000, with the unemployment rate holding at 7.3 per cent.
