Eurozone third-quarter growth falters, slowing to 0.1%

Growth in the eurozone faltered in the third quarter, taking some of the shine off a rebound earlier in the year that saw the currency bloc emerge from an 18-month recession. The euro area economy expanded by 0.1 per cent -- in line with economists' expectations -- in the three months to September, Eurostat said on Thursday, following growth of 0.3 per cent in the second quarter. The currency bloc's two largest largest economies both performed worse in the second quarter. Germany, the main eurozone engine, saw growth slip to 0.3 per cent in July to September, from 0.7 per cent, while France's stuttering economy shrank 0.1 per cent after hitting 0.5 per cent growth in the three months to June.
