Myanmar to resume rice exports to Japan
Myanmar will resume exports of rice to Japan after a 45-year hiatus, marking a milestone in trade relations between the former military dictatorship and Tokyo.

Mitsui, the trading company which arranged the cargo – the first between the two nations since 1968 – said a shipment of 5,000 tonnes of long-grain rice would leave the southern port of Yangon in May, bound for Nagoya. It added that Japan's agriculture ministry, which is the buyer, may sell the rice to domestic producers of beer, crackers and shochu, a distilled Japanese drink.
