Sarkozy: from the Elysée to private equity
Nicolas Sarkozy has spent virtually all his professional life in politics but has long made no secret of his desire to make money after leaving office. In the months since he lost power, he and his closest advisers have been casting around for a new direction for his post-presidential career. One idea has started to coalesce in his inner circle – a project that would see him enter the world of private equity and take advantage of his close connections with a deep pool of capital in the deserts of Qatar.
FT reporters Anne-Sylvaine Chassany and Camilla Hall tell the inside story of the former French president's flirtations with high finance – and the obstacles that stand in his way.
